Water crisis: MP seeks divine intervention

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government is seeking divine intervention to save the state from the acute water crisis. The crisis has led to several clashes, in one of the incidents three people were killed.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan performed rituals at the Som Yagna organised in Ujjain. The drought is worsening and has sparked water wars in some parts. With no signs of any rain clouds yet, the government is left looking to the heavens.

“This is an ancient ritual of ours and it will bless us with good monsoons. Science is not against Vedas, so we have organised this holi yagna for rain gods,” says Chauhan.

But this is no low-profile yagna. The state government has ear-marked lakhs of rupees for these rituals. Interestingly, in 2007 Rs 64 lakh were spent to see if Vedic rituals could usher in the monsoons.

“We are praying in accordance to Vedic rituals in hope of good monsoons ahead,” says member of Ved Vigyan Ashram, Roog Nath.

The government has also roped in the state Science and Technology Council to be a part of this ritualistic exercise. Now taking a cue from the state government, people are turning to God and observing religious rituals across the state.
