MP journalist murder: STF arrests four persons

CNN-IBN

Umaria: The Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday arrested four people in the murder case of journalist Chandrika Rai and his family in Madhya Pradesh. Freelance journalist Chandrika Rai, his wife, son and a daughter were found brutally murdered inside their house on Saturday in Umaria.

Chandrika Rai, his wife Durga Rai, son Jalaj and daughter Nisha were found lying in pools of blood in different rooms of the family's house on Sunday.

The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday announced an STF-level probe into the incident.

Rai had reported extensively against the mining mafia in the state. He worked as a freelancer for 'Navbharat Times' and 'The Hitavada', while his wife was a member of local Janpad.

The police are pursuing several angles of investigation. The police say the murders could be connected to the kidnapping of another child two days ago.

According to police, the house was locked from outside the whole day on Sunday. Finding something amiss, Rai's brother went to the house and broke the lock to find the horrific scene inside.

The victims appeared to have been hit on the head by a heavy iron object.
