Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided the house of Arjun Singh Lalwani, who is a clerk in the electricity board and discovered assets worth Rs 40 crore. Cash and properties worth lakhs were seized and the police claimed his income was disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Vinod Sharma, DSP Lokayukta, said, "He has got several properties, four houses and FD worth around Rs 80 lakh."

The millionaire clerk, however, rejected the allegation that his wealth was ill gotten, saying that there were other earning members in his family.

"They have taken over our shop. It is not right to say so as I am not the only one earning. It is not a property of worth Rs 40 crore. I have a property of worth Rs 1 crore. My kids are earning, my daughter is a doctor, my son is an engineer, I am earning Rs 48,000 per month. They have complained in the office the Income Tax department," Lalwani said.

Over the past one year, the Lokayukta conducted several such raids on class three and class four employees in MP and unearthed properties worth crores. But there has been no action yet against ministers and IAS and IPS officers against whom several complaints are pending.
