Bhopal: A Swiss woman was allegedly gangraped near a popular tourist destination in Madhya Pradesh, while another woman was gangraped by three men in a bus in Indore. Thirteen suspects have been detained in Datia in the Swiss woman's gangrape while three have been arrested in Indore.
The Swiss woman and her husband had finished tying up their tent at 9 pm on Saturday on the outskirts of village Jhadia in the Datia district, Madhya Pradesh, when seven men attacked the couple, beating up the man, stealing their belongings and raping the woman. By Saturday morning, 13 people were detained on the basis of descriptions given by the couple.
"A case has been registered against seven people and efforts are on to identify and nab them. They beat up the husband and took away their laptop and other belongings and gangraped the lady," said ML Dhodi, the investigating officer in the case.
The second gangrape was reported from Indore where a woman travelling from Dewas was raped by the driver, conductor and one one more person. The victim was travelling to Indore to meet her husband. Police have seized the bus and arrested the three accused.
"The conductor, driver and one more person took the bus to an isolated spot and raped the woman. All three have been arrested and the bus has been seized," Manoj Ratnakar, SHO Tukoganj Police Station said.
With a lot of noise already being made on the increasing instances of crime against women in Madhya Pradesh, the opposition Congress party took to the streets for a brief while in Bhopal and burnt the effigy of state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
