Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi resigned from the Cabinet on Monday three days after the Income Tax department raided his brother’s properties in connection with a multi-crore medicine scam.

Home Secretary Rajesh Rajora has already resigned after his premises were raided last week. The BJP is suspicious of the raids but party sources say Bishnoi was forced to quit. Soon after the raids, Bishnoi claimed innocence and said nothing was recovered.

“Although I have not done anything wrong, I am resigning from the post of Health Minister because the Congress and others were maligning the image of the government and the BJP,” said Bishnoi on Monday.

IT officials however have a different version. "People have become very clever. They do not invest in their names. Here also we have found some thing like this. Property has been purchased in the name of in-laws,” said S K Rana, Director General, Investigation, Income Tax Department, Madhya Pradseh.

Tax raids in september 2007 had led to the resignation of the health director and provided insights into a health scam worth over Rs 100 crores. The latest raids were follow-up action and I-T officials now say that the 100 crore scam was just the tip of the iceberg.
