MPs have fun in mother tongue

New Delhi: Unity in diversity. That is what Indian legislators preached in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday with everybody speaking in his or her mother tongue.

The MPs that we often accuse of being unruly and indisciplined decided to have some fun in their own mother tounge.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee took the lead in letting Parliamentarians eulogise their own regional languages for almost an hour.

The medium of communication changed on a day being celebrated as International Mother Tongue Day.

And for once Chatterjee - who has threatened that he will resign from his post several times - also managed a broad smile.

"I complement this house today. I am really happy," said he.

No one was talking about the Bird Flu and no one even complained about the wastage of time in Parliament.

However, tommorrow will be another day and the bon homie seen between the Parliamentarians on Tuesday may well have disappeared in the next 24 hours.
