New Delhi: Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd Mukesh Ambani is all set to get a new home. His new home is expected to cost about Rs 8000 crore ($2 billion) and will have 4-lakh square feet of space.
The idea of the new home came to Mukesh's wife Nita Ambani after a spa overlooking New York's lush Central Park.
It is being created by the best architects and designers in the world in consultations with architecture firm Perkins + Will and Hirsch Bedner Associates. The Rs 8000-crore house will be Mukesh Ambani's private island in the concrete jungle of Mumbai.
The 550-feet tower will have 27 floors, each of double height and will have a built up area of over 4-lakh square feet that is about the size of 500 two-bedroom flats in space-starved Mumbai.
The architects are following Nita's instructions that no two floors be similar are currently modifying the house even as they build it.
In the lobby there are nine elevators but only two of them have access to the family while the others are for guests, service areas and car parking.
Just off the lobby, a chandeliered ballroom with its own stage and projection system attached and a kitchen to feed hundreds of guests is being made.
The bathrooms are big as apartments and done in traditional Indian motifs.
And then there are the countless lounges, some of which are traditional and some are modern.
A private cinema theatre takes up a large part of the entertainment area. There is a separate floor for the pool, gym and yoga studio with its own juice bars.
The first six floors are for parking cars. And the crowning glory is a terrace for a full view of the Mumbai skyline and the Arabian Sea.
"When the Ambani residence is finished in January, completing a four-year process, it will be 550 feet high with 4,00,000 square feet of interior space," Forbes said in a report on its website.
Earlier in March, Mukesh Ambani was ranked as the fifth richest person in the world with a net worth of $43 billion by the Forbes magazine in its annual list of world's wealthiest billionaires.
"The only remotely comparable high-rise property currently on the market is the $70 million triplex penthouse at the Pierre Hotel in New York, designed to resemble a French chateau, and climbing 525 feet in the air," Forbes said in its report titled, "Inside The World's First Billion-Dollar Home."
