Mumbai: Three persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly gangraping a 16-year-old minor girl in Goregaon, Maharashtra on November 1. The three accused have been sent to police custody till November 12.
DCP Pravin Patil has assured that the matter would be investigated thoroughly.
Police officials said four men known to the survior were involved in the rape, and two others abetted the crime.
Police added the girl was threatened with a broken beer bottle and then raped.
Reports indicate that the survivor went over to the home of one of the accused for Diwali celebration. On the pretext of droppng her home, the accused allegedly took her to a secluded place and gangraped her.
The incident comes less than three months after the horrific Shakti Mills gangrape case that shocked the country.
Earlier, senior Police Inspector Jayant Mane had said, "Four of the accused could be minors. Two of the accused are adults. The Assistant Commissioner of Police is inquiring whether the officers on duty ignored the complaint. The victim has claimed that the alcohol she drank was laced with some sedatives."
