Mumbai: A tragedy occurred during the Ganesh Visarjan in Mumbai on Sunday. One person died and several others were injured after a balcony collapsed when people were watching the Lalbaugcha Raja procession.
There were at least 20 to 30 people on the crowded balcony according to reports.
The balcony was the roof of a shop that collapsed due to the weight of onlookers.
Security has been beefed up across the country for the Ganesh Visarjan.
Lakhs are expected to take part in the Ganesh idol immersions, especially across Maharashtra and Gujarat. Coming in the backdrop of the Delhi blast, security has been tightened in major cities with more CCTVs installed in important locations.
In fact, with a terror threat looming in Ahmedabad, major procession routes have been barricaded.
In Mumbai, a special police team will keep a close watch on those who leave unidentified objects during the Ganesh immersion on Sunday.
