Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested Pawan Gupta, the husband of Nidhi Gupta who reportedly jumped to her death along with her two children off the 19th floor of high-rise building in Malad. Sunita Gupta, Nidhi's sister-in-law, was arrested on the charge of abetment of suicide on Monday.
"Nidhi's husband Pawan Gupta was arrested from the city today. We are looking for other family members. Earlier Nidhi's sister-in-law Sunita was apprehended on Friday," said Vinayak Kakade, senior Inspector at Dindoshi police station.
Pawan was held on charges of abetment to suicide and torture has been remanded to police custody till March 21, he said.
Nidhi a professor and a Chartered Accountant, killed herself along with her seven-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter, a day before her 10th wedding anniversary.
She had been married to Pawan, who is into a ready-made garment business, for 10 years. A suicide note left by the victim reads "nobody is responsible for this," police said.
Nidhi stayed with her husband Pawan and his family members comprising in-laws, brother-in-law and sister-in-law at a flat on the 9th floor of the building, they said.
Her father, Bimal Jalan, has filed a case of abetment of suicide and dowry harassment against her in-laws after his daughter's tragic death.
Nidhi had allegedly thrown down her son Gaurav and daughter Mahika from the 19th floor of Sahyadri Housing Complex in suburban Malad before jumping down herself.
