Mumbai: A speeding Honda Accord rammed into several vehicles while entering a no-entry zone at Khar in Mumbai on Wednesday. A diamond trader riding on his bike and an auto-rickshaw driver lost their lives. A lady, believed to be a foreign national, sitting in the car was also injured.
Eyewitnesses say that around 9.00 am, the speeding car suddenly entered the already packed and narrow lane. It rammed into an auto-rickshaw, an SUV and a few other cars. Pratap Dighavkar, the DCP of Zone 9, told reporters that the man had been booked. "He was aware that driving above the speed of over 100kmph in a no-entry zone would have caused resulted in some casualties. He has been booked under section 304 IPC," he said.
Thirty seven-year-old Momin Ibrahim Barmare is now being questioned. The police is trying to verify whether he was under the influence of alcohol and what led to the accident.
Police claim the picture will become clearer once the medical report of the driver is submitted.
