Mumbai cops fan out to nail 4 terror suspects

Mumbai: Five teams of Mumbai's Anti-Terrorist Squad have launched a hunt for four suspected terrorists who visited the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A taxi driver alerted the police on Thursday that he had transported three men and a woman in burqa around the city and found them strange because they kept speaking in hushed tones.

The four visited Mahim Dargah, Haji Ali , Mahalaxmi temple, J J Hospital and the Hilton Towers before getting off at the Siddhivinayak Temple after an argument with the driver.

Police say they are taking the taxi driver's tip off seriously so that any untoward incident is averted in the city.

"The taxi driver IS not a psychologist and he told us whatever he felt. He's an old Muslim taxi driver and let's not expose the driver or the police," said Joint Commissioner, Mumbai Police, K L Prasad.

Police suspect that the four carried out a recce of the five spots One of the men is said to be in is his forties while the other two were in their mid-twenties. Sketches of the three men have been released and security has been tightened at the five spots.

CNN-IBN correspondent Ruksh Chatterjee reports the passengers gave the taxi driver Rs 2,000 for a day and told him that they would need him for two days.

The driver suspects the passengers visited Mantralaya, the state government’s seat, after they got down at the Hilton Hotel. The passengers got angry when they asked the driver to keep a bag for them but he refused.
