Mumbai: Mumbai is bracing up for the arrival of US president Barack Obama this Diwali weekend.
South Mumbai in particular is gradually turning into a fortress as President Obama is expected to stay at Hotel Taj.
It’s still sometime before the President of the United States actually lands in Mumbai, but the process of sanitisation and security review has begun. From placing of police barricades to patrolling, the security machinery is gearing up.
While the Gateway of India will be off limits for the tourists and visitors, Colaba causeway will see a controlled inflow of shoppers. From hawkers to tour guides to photographers, everyone at Gateway of India has been asked to shut shops from the night of November 5 till the President leaves.
Even the bursting crackers during Diwali along Marine Drive may be restricted as traffic diversions will also be in place leaving the people of Mumbai upset.
Smita Shah, a Mumbai resident said, “Over 40 thousand personnel will be on round the clock duty during the festive days.”
