Mumbai: If you're a fan of music, here are some traditional beats all the way from Japan that you might just find exciting. CNN-IBN met some taiko artists who are in Mumbai to perform at the Kalaghoda Festival.

Drums, or taiko as they're called in Japanese, were used as an intimidation tactic in ancient Japan. And intimidation was at its highest at the championship organised by the Japanese Karate Association, where some girls had very good reason to learn this martial art form.

“I love Bruce Lee a lot, and because of him I started to learn karate,” a karate student says.

Karate aside, most of the taiko drummers at the festival are under the age of 18 and have been playing since the age of 6. Each drum, all 120 kg of it, was transported all the way from Japan in one single piece

“We transport taikos with great difficulty. They can not be put on a boat,” Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai, Teiichi Torikai explains.

If you want to hear more from the taiko artists, head straight to the Kalaghoda festival this Saturday and you'll find what you went looking for.
