Mumbai: Renuka Deshpande is all smiles after topping the Class 10 board exams in the Mumbai region.
"I am very happy. I didn't expect such good results," says she, all smiles.
While Renuka enjoyed her much deserved victory, for Pune's Magarbi Hussaini, who stood third overall with a staggering 95.69 percent, the biggest challenge was to live up to her father's expectations.
"I'm the first one in my family to top in the city. It's a great feeling," says she.
The trend has continued and girls continued to outshine boys all across the state.
- Almost 79 per cent of the girls cleared their exams in the first attempt
- Just about 76 per cent of boys managed clear exams in the first attempt
- The overall pass percentage for the state was just over 77 per cent
- The overall pass percentage for Mumbai was a little over 84 per cent
And 90 percenters were not the only ones celebrating. Says a student, Angela D'Souza, "I was expecting 80 per cent and I got 82 per cent. I am going to party all night!"
The Class 10 results are considered more important in Maharashtra because of the junior college system for plus-two education. So for youngsters who managed to score well, the next step will be the mad rush for college forms so that they can secure a seat in the college of their choice.
