Mumbai hit-and-run case: NRI beautician Nooriya convicted, sentenced to 5 years in jail

Mumbai: NRI beautician Nooriya Haveliwala on Thursday was convicted for ramming her car into two people in 2010 and sentence to five years in jail. Haveliwala was also slapped with a fine of Rs 5 lakh. A policeman was among those killed when an inebriated Haveliwala rammed her car on her way back from a party at Malabar Hill in Mumbai.

Tests showed that Haveliwala was found to have been driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol on January 30, 2010. Haveliwala has been convicted under motor vehicle act and damages to public property and acquitted under NDPS act.

The 27-year-old beautician, who was drunk, had rammed her car into a police jeep, a taxi and a motorcycle while on her way home to Colaba.
