Mumbai: The black flags that greeted Anna Hazare on Tuesday on the way to MMRDA ground were perhaps an indication of the lackluster support that awaited him. Team Anna had expected at least one lakh people on day One but only about 7,000 turned up.
Team Anna member Kiran Bedi said, "People came on the roads, they are watching us on the television that is also support for us."
Social activist Medha Patkar said that Anna’s fast is not about the number of people turning out.
Lyricist Vishal Dadlani said "People's attention spans are less, and this movement has been going for the past 11 months, so it's difficult."
The simultaneous agitation in Delhi also saw a thin crowd, just a few hundred people. Team Anna blamed it on the cold. It was a disappointing turnout for Team Anna after the show of strength at Ramlila Maidan in August. But the die-hard Anna supporters like Adbut Swami from Ujjain are still undeterred.
As many are saying, is Mumbai too busy for Anna? The blank spaces on the ground, as in Delhi, certainly seem to suggest as much. Making it clear that the challenge now for Team Anna in its third phase of agitation is to keep up the momentum it had built up through the year.
