Mumbai: An Ahmedabad-based MBA graduate has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a Mumbai-based man by obtaining latter's nude video footage by posing as a girl during their Internet chats, police said.
The accused Nikhil Lala had befriended the complainant through Internet and started chatting with him as a woman since early January. Lala then insisted that he wanted to video chat with the complainant and he himself posed as a girl by using some recorded videos.
"After some time into the video chat, Lala asked the complainant to get into compromising position on camera which the complainant obliged. From the next day, the accused started calling him on his mobile phone, which he had asked for during the chats, to demand money by threatening to make the footage public," police said.

The accused insisted that he wanted to video chat with the man and he himself posed as a girl by using some recorded videos.
Initially, Lala demanded Rs 80,000 from the victim, but later he brought the price down to Rs 40,000. The victim then lodged a complaint with the police. The Crime Branch, which took up the investigation, found that the SIM card that the accused used for making threat calls was registered in the name of one Kanti Chauhan.
When police approached Chauhan, he told them that had met a stranger (Lala) who had convinced him to sell his SIM card for Rs 500, saying that his (Lala's) SIM card was blocked and he wanted to make some urgent calls, police said.
However, he said he had noted the number of the car in which the accused had come to him and based on that number, police arrested Lala and also seized the SIM card that he was using.
The accused was brought to Mumbai on Thursday, police said, adding that further probe in the case was on.
