Mumbai police orders probe into publishing of 'offensive' poem, to apologise

Mumbai: Mumbai Commissioner Satyapal Singh has ordered a probe into a controversial poem published in the city police's in-house magazine Samwaad. The Commissioner has asked DCP SS Gholap to submit a report in a fortnight's time.

This comes after an advocate submitted a written complaint to the Azad Maidan Police station about registering a case against the officer, Sujata Patil, who had written the poem. The Mumbai police will also print an apology in the magazine's next issue.

Patil, in her poem, had referred to the Azad Maidan protesters as traitors and snakes and suggested that their hands should have been chopped off.
