Mumbai: India, saluting its real heroes. Teary-eyed relatives of the men who died in the line of duty were joined by ordinary Mumbaikars as the city remembered those killed in the 26/11 terror strikes.
The solemn occasion though, was marred by an unseemly tug of war between the Shiv Sena and the Congress over just who will unveil the memorial erected for policeman Tukaram Ombale.
Tukaram Ombale, armed with nothing but courage, held on to Ajmal Kasab even as bullets were being pumped into him. That one selfless, courageous act meant Kasab was captured alive.
A four-feet bust of the braveheart was erected at the very spot. Up until the eve of the anniversary though confusion prevailed over who would inaugurate the memorial, the Congress keen the chief minister do so.
The Sena, eventually scoring a political point as the BMC, the city's civic body run by the party did the honours.
The average Mumbaikar, frustrated with repeated attacks, is less than impressed.
