Mumbai: A 21-year-old youth molested an eight-year-old girl in the Malvani area of Mumbai.
The accused, Soman Chakravarti was staying in the victim's house and molested the girl while her parents were away.
The victim's parents registered a complaint in the Malvani police station, after which the police have arrested the accused. He was booked under section 354 and 506 of the IPC.
This is not the only rape case that the city of dreams- Mumbai- has witnessed so far. There have been incidents of rape previously in Mumbai. Below are a few infamous one’s.
In August 2005, A teenaged girl was raped by a cop in a chowky under the Marine Drive flyover in Mumbai.
In January 2006, A South African NRI model was raped in a city hotel.
In December 2007 A Latvian woman was raped by a motorist in Navi Mumbai.
In August 2008, a call centre employee was raped.
However, there are many cases that still go unheard. These cases of crime against women raise questions regarding the safety of Women in Indian metros.
