Mumbai: Bloodstains on the railway tracks mark the spot where 25-year-old Laxman Mhatre lost his life on Tuesday morning. Mhatre was the driver of the school bus, which met with an accident on Monday after he lost control.
Laxman was allegedly inebriated and he went missing right after the accident. The Railway Police say while it looks like an accident. But the possibility of suicide cannot be ruled out.
"We can't say whether it was a suicide or hit an run case. But the dead body was found on the tracks under mysterious circumstances,” says Senior Police Inspector Railways, T N Shinde.
Laxman's 75-year-old father is inconsolable after being informed about his son’s death. The police managed to identify the body thanks to an ID card and a cell phone.
"He was on the run and did not contact us. It was only after his friend called on his cell phone that the police said that he met an accident,” says brother of the victim, Subhash Mhatre.
