Mumbai: Suspected terrorists gunned down

Mumbai: Two suspected terrorists, including a Bangladeshi, were gunned down by Maharashtra's Anti- Terrorist Squad (ATS) in Kashimeera area of Thane district late on Tuesday evening.

The Mumbai police's Anti-Terrorist Squad carried out the operation at Kashimira near Mira Road. At about 8:30 last evening the ATS laid a trap for the terrorists, based on a prior tip off. On seeing the men arrive, the police ordered them to surrender but they fired instead.

The ATS fired back and the duo were killed in the cross fire. A huge cache of arms ammunation and fake currency were recovered from them.

“Explosive material, suspected to be lethal RDX, fake currency in lakhs, and two firearms were seized from the duo," a senior ATS official told PTI.

A Bangladeshi passport was recovered from one of the deceased, identifying him as Mohammed Ali.

The police believe the two men are activists of the Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami.
