Mumbai:Documentary enthusiasts in India have never had it so good. They can watch some of the best documentaries from across South Asia and no multiplexes for them, the movie buffs get to watch them at historic settings.
The 200-year-old Durbar hall at Mumbai's Asiatic Society will host the two-day Festival of Travelling Film South Asia 2006 from April 21.
Cinema lovers eagerly await the Festival of Travelling Film South Asia, which was started in Nepal to build bridges between South Asian countries and promote cultural exchange. The festival will showcase Fifteen outstanding documentaries made by Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalese, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans and South Africans will be screened at this festival.
"This 15 film package is for people who love cinema and also those who want to see the issues that concern Asia, particularly South Asia," said the event organiser, Ramesh Pimple of Peoples Media Initiative.
Movies to watch for in the festival will be, Sunset Bollywood, it’s a film about failed Bollywood dreams, which ahs always been a favourite topic for the documentary filmmakers. Other highlights of the festival are Rakesh Sharma’s Final Solution and Continuous Journey, a film on the 1914 Komagatu Maru incident where a shipload of Indian migrants was turned away by Canada.
The festival will travel to 50 cities across South Asia through 2006, providing a platform for viewers and filmmakers to interact and build bridges.
