Mumbai: More than 48 hours after a 19-year-old boy was stabbed to death while trying to protect his friend from molesters in Mumbai, the police on Thursday increased the security of the girl fearing she is being threatened. The step was taken by the police after the girl changed her statement twice about the men who were harassing her.
Meanwhile, one of the accused in the case, who is 18-year-old, has been sent to police custody. Four other accused in the case, who are all minors, have been sent to a juvenile centre in neighbouring Bhiwandi.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, the mother of the victim, Santosh Vichivara, said that her son was the sole breadwinner in the family after his father died two years ago. "My son has done a very brave thing. He stood up for the girl and this is what happened. He was always like this, he used to help people...I think the accused should be given the strictest punishment," said Santosh's mother Vimal.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of Mumbai police met the family of the girl who was harassed, and also asked for a report as her statements appeared to be conflicting.
