Mumbai: Fourteen hours after the fierce siege at the Taj Mahal Hotel ended Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh visited the iconic hotel with his film star son Ritesh Deshmukh and director Ram Gopal Varma attracting scathing criticism from all quarters.

People feel that the Chief Minister is not serious about the attack on Mumbai and that it's the time that he and Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil should resign.

In February 2006, CNN-IBN had shown how easy it is to land arms and ammunition on Maharashtra's coast in its special show Water Rats. Yet, a state government plan to secure the state's coastline is still tangled in red tape.

“We have already given a proposal to the Central Government. They have sanctioned the costal police station. This is a new scheme which our Central Government has initiated and we got maximum amount from that fund,” the CM said in 2006.

RR Patil, who also hold home portfolio is also facing flak for making this remark – “There is no question of resigning. I have spoken to the CM and we will take necessary steps to prevent this from happening again.”

There is tremendous pressure building within the Congress Party to throw Deshmukh out. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is believed to be in consolation with senior party colleagues over the issue.

But senior Congress men in Mumbai believe that Deshmukh will weather the storm.
