Murdered Mumbai boy's family blames media

CNN-IBN

Mumbai: What started as a casual night-out ended in death for 16-year-old Adnan Patrawala. Adnan was kidnapped by his friends in Mumbai on Monday night.

Through the day, his family received ransom calls and late in the evening, the boy’s body was found in Navi Mumbai.

By late evening, Adnan’s three friends - Sujith Nair, Ayush Bhat and Himmesh Ambavat had confessed to his murder.

Police say the trio had promised to make Adnan meet Angel D, a suspicious Orkut acquaintance.

They took him with them on the pre-text and strangled him to death when the ransom demand wasn’t met.

Police are now scrutinising these Orkut profiles and also trying to ascertain the motive behind this kidnapping.

Meanwhile, Adnan's family is blaming the media for his death. “I request the media to maintain some patience, support the police in their investigation and not react until the criminals are caught. It’s because of your reaction that this has happened. Otherwise, the boy could have been saved. The post-mortem has been done. Till now three of the five suspects have been arrested,” said a family friend of Adnan, Rajeev Manwani.

The Orkut link

Sujith Nair, Ayush Bhat and Himmesh Ambavat figured on Adnan's friend list on popular social networking site Orkut. Also common to all three was a 'friend' called Angel D.

It was on the pretext of making Adnan meet Angel that the trio kidnapped him.

Surprisingly, even when news of the murder broke, someone still seemed to operate Adnan’s profile. Names and messages from Angel's profile were deleted after the media flashed the news of the 16-year-old’s death.

Adnan's picture, album, videos and all messages before August 20 have been deleted.
