New Delhi: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has finally signed an amnesty ordinance that drops corruption charges against former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, paving the way for a power-sharing deal with her.
The ordinance that includes other political leaders besides Bhutto, however, leaves out exiled former premier Nawaz Sharif.
"President Musharraf has signed it (Ordinance). It is the beginning of a new era," Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid said on Friday.
Musharraf signed the Reconciliation Ordinance hours after SC ruled that he could seek re-election as scheduled on Saturday on the condition that the results would not be notified till the Court delivers a judgment on petitions challenging his right to stand for election in uniform.
The decision could be reached on October 17 or perhaps later on November 15, which is, constitutionally, the last date that Musharraf can hold two offices.
If the court rules against him, it's not clear yet what the general could do.
