Pervez Musharraf has no chance of coming back: Pak PM Gilani

Press Trust of India

Lahore: In a veiled attack on former president Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday said dictators who made tall claims of eradicating poverty and corruption failed and there was "no chance" for them to stage a come back.

Gilani's comments came a day after Musharraf postponed his return to Pakistan, after the government said that he would go behind bars.

An arrest warrant is pending against him for his alleged failure to cooperate in the probe of assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

Musharraf who left the country in 2009 is also an accused in the killing of Baloch nationalist leader Akbar Bugti in a military operation in August 2006.

Gilani said that dictators who came into power made tall claims on ending corruption and poverty, but despite staying in power for decades, they failed to do so, the Express Tribune reported.

"They still say that the nation is missing them and they want to come back. We want to tell them that there is no chance for them to come back," Gilani said, in a veiled reference to Musharraf.

Leaders of Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League told the media yesterday that he had delayed his plans to return to Pakistan later this month after consulting friends and party leaders. His party is likely to contest the next general elections.
