Music review: Morning Walk

Arup Dutta's Morning Walk has music that stands above other recent soundtracks. With music by Jeet Gannguli and lyrics by Nida Fazli, Sanjeev Tiwari, Dibbendu Mukherjee and Shaan, the CD has six tracks and is mercifully devoid of remixes.

Ustad Rashid Khan sings the heavy-sounding Bhor Bhayo with Shreya Ghoshal. The music is intense, marred by Joi's unnecessary singing in English. Bhor Bhayo could very well have been on the Gulaal soundtrack, it's that kind of a song.

Manwa sounds fantastic - Dibbendu Mukherjee sings this out and out Spanish track, fused with Ustad Rashid Khan's vocals. Tiwari and Mukherjee have done a good job with the lyrics and Khan has plenty of space to display his talent. Impressive for music for a Hindi film, this stuff works just great.

Shreya Ghoshal and Shaan duet on Meethi Meethi Baatein, which is sweet-and-simple but skilfully composed. Nida Fazli has penned the words to this one, and the next, Dolna. Ghoshal's singing on Dolna is capable of blowing you away. She doesn't exert force, but shows off tremendous range and masterly control over her vocal cords. The music is so brilliant that it leaves absolutely no room for improvement.

Shaan takes over for the last two songs on the album. Not being anything like the previous four songs, Aasman Chhoona Nahin makes the quality level dip, but isn't a bad track by any standard. Nachle is upbeat but neither peppy nor memorable, and doesn't have any appeal whatsoever.

Verdict

The first four songs off Morning Walk's soundtrack are very interesting ... a cut above the rest.

Rating: 3/5
