New Delhi: Coinciding with the release of his Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye, actor Naseeruddin Shah has spoken out against conservative Muslim leaders.
The actor was asked whether he expects Indian Muslim leaders to watch the film and this is what he said in reply:
"Muslim leaders here are just waiting to impose a fatwa. But I wonder how many films they have watched. They surely watch something otherwise how do they comment on Sania Mirza's skirt?"
His film Khuda Kay Liye is about the difficult situation in which the Pakistanis in particular and the Muslims in general are caught up since 9/11.
The film basically takes a hard look at the dilemma faced by progressive Muslims who are sandwiched between Islamic fundamentalists on the one hand and a suspicious Western world on the other.
