New Delhi: An Assistant Commissioner of Police and a sub-inspector are being questioned by the West Bengal CID in connection with the Rizwanur Rehman murder case.
The CID summoned ACP Sukanti Chakrabarti of the Police Anti-Rowdy section, and sub-inspector Krishnendu Das for questioning in the Rizwanur Rehman case.
Rizwan was allegedly murdered after his marriage to a prominent hindu businessman's daughter, Ashok Todi. His family have accused some senior police officials of threatening him with dire consequences after he married Priyanka.
Rizwan, a teacher at a multimedia academy, was found dead on railway tracks on the outskirts of Kolkata last week. He had earlier alleged that top officers of Kolkata Police were pressuring him to end his marriage with Priyanka.
His relatives allege that the industrialist exerted his influence in the police to separate the couple. Rizwan had married 23-year-old Priyanka on August 18.
The incident has kicked up quite a furore in Kolkata, forcing the West Bengal government to order a judicial probe.
But Rizwan's family want a CBI probe and the Calcutta High Court will decide on the matter on Monday.
Though Todi was summoned by the CID for interrogation on Thursday, no arrest has been made so far.
Earlier on Saturday, senior CPM leader, Jyoti Basu spoke to state Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya on the issue.
Rizwan's death had sparked off street protests in Kolkata last week with angry people taking to streets and going on an rampage.
