New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh Minorities Commission has accused the city police in Hyderabad of illegally detaining and torturing 20 Muslim men.

The Commission has submitted a report to the Chief Minister and appointed a panel after families of some of the men alleged torture in custody.

"A final report is being prepared and we will name all the police officials involved in torturing Muslim youths," says Chairman of Minorities Commission Yousuf Qureshi.

The panel has confirmed the allegations, and the Commission is now asking the state government to punish the police officials involved.

In its report the Commission says the panel could not meet seven of the men arrested. It adds that injuries were inflicted on the bodies of nine men, some of them indicating the use of electricity and needles.
