New Delhi: Dr Nupur Talwar, mother of murdered teenaged girl Arushi, has ended her silence and claims her husband is innocent.
"My life has been completely collapsed. A normal family's been completely destroyed. My husband is innocennt and I know that. As a mother and a wife, I Know that, All I can say is please everyone out there pray for Aarushi's soul, pray for Rajesh and pray for my family. I have full faith in the Judiciary of this country and full faith in God. And I'm certain that truth is going to prevail," Dr Nupur Talwar said.
Police on Friday arrested Nupur’s husband Dr Rajesh Talwar for killing their daughter Arushi, 14, and domestic help Hemraj, 45.
The police claimed Rajesh murdered them to cover up his extramarital affair with a colleague.
They also said that Rajesh had found Arushi and Hemraj in an "objectionable condition" on the night of the murder.
On Saturday, Nupur rejected police’s claims and said Hemraj was like a “father figure” to Arushi.
Nupur claimed Hemraj was “very caring” to Arushi and his affection was that of an elderly person.
“It is impossible for my husband to kill my daughter. My husband is innocent—the killer is still out there,” she said.
Asked about what happened on the night of May 15, Nupur said, “We had dinner together like a normal family and went to sleep.”
Police claim Rajesh killed Hemraj first and dumped his body on the terrace. He then came downstairs, drank whiskey and a little later killed Arushi, too.
But Nupur insists her husband is innocent. “I will not sit idle, I will fight for my husband till the last. This is the worst punishment God could give to me. Can any mother support a husband who kills her daughter?” she said.
Nupur also rejected police’s allegation that her husband was having an affair with Dr Anita Durrani, a co-worker at his private clinic. “Dr Durrani is like our family member,” she added.
Rajesh has been taken into 14-day judicial custody. His lawyer on Saturday filed a plea before a Noida court to release him on bail.
He also claimed the police does not have any evidence against his client.
We have moved two applications in front of the court. one application is on the health grounds. Dr. Rajesh Talwar is an asthma patient. We have requested the court to move him to a better location and give him proper facility so that his health isn't affected. Second application is a bail application on the basis
that police doesn't have any evidence to support his arrest," Abhijit Chatterjee, Dr Rajesh's lawyer, said.
