I visit Washington D.C. at least once every quarter on business, for investor and government meetings. The most prominent landmark of the city is the Washington Monument which is an obelisk built in the 19th century in honour of the first US President, George Washington.

My top choice hotel is the Hyatt; it is centrally located, and close to my meeting locations. It is also within walking distance of China Town and several other eating joints.

My Washington and Spanish food

Inderpreet S Wadhwa, CEO, Azure Power, enjoys Spanish food in the US capital.

The Willard Intercontinental on Pennsylvania Avenue is also a good option. It is two blocks away from the underground Metro Center, the hub station, which makes getting around the city very easy.

For your business meetings, there are multiple restaurants and coffee shops at China Town. The lobby at the Hyatt is also very suitable for a meeting.

For food, my personal favourite is the Spanish Tapas restaurant and bar, La Tasca, on 7th Street. Very good food and live music in the evenings make it a fun, relaxing place.

Tips

The Metro is the best mode of transport, as it connects to all the main locations through the city.

If you have some free time, visit the museums at the National Mall, a large national park area downtown.

The Smithsonian Institution’s galleries of Mediterranean and Asian art, the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of African Art, and many others are also located here.

On a longer business trip, it is nice to take a day off and spend some time hiking, riding a horse or trekking through the scenic Shenandoah National Park, to recharge.

After Hours

The night life over here is quite lively, with places like the Buddha Bar, a lounge and bar which offers Asian Fusion cuisine, and the Irish pub Fado in China Town.

If you have little time to shop, Tysons Corner Center offers most of the brands that one would want to look at, all under one roof.

Washington is a pleasant place to visit, so long as you are not there during snowstorms!
