Chennai: Top seed Rafael Nadal of Spain cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Indian-American Rajeev Ram in the second round of the Chennai Open ATP tournament on Thursday.

Nadal needed just 32 minutes to wrap up the first set 6-2 and in the second set, too, he faced no resistance defeating the world No. 252 in just 34 minutes.

The 21-year-old Nadal is looking to build on an impressive 2007 season in which he went 70-15 with six titles, including his third consecutive French Open championship.

Nadal will meet another Spaniard Guillermo Garcia Lopez in the last eight. Lopez ousted seventh seed Werner Eschauer of Austria in a tough three setter 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3).

However, it was not a lucky day for other top seeds as fifth-seeded Nicolas Mahut of France along with Eschauer were shown the door.

Mahut lost to Croatia's Marin Cilic 6-2, 6-4 in 76 minutes. Cilic will meet the winner of the match between Robin Haase and qualifier Lovro Zovko.

Haase had knocked out second seeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.
