Click to play videoPanaji: There is a new twist in the death case of Nadia Torrado, the woman friend of former Goa tourism minister Mickey Pacheco. Nadia's mother, Sonia Torrado, has been arrested allegedly for destruction of evidence by Goa Crime Branch.
Report say Sonia was arrested on the basis of statements given by Pacheco, who himself is an accused in the mysterious death case. Police say there were several loopholes in Nadia's family's claims.
The questions being raised include: On whose instructions and why did Sonia ask her maid to burn five polythene bags with Nadia's belongings? Why was Nadia's mother making contradictory claims of being present at two different locations on the night before the incident? Who were the unknown persons from whom Nadia's brothers received two installments worth several lakhs?
She will be produced in a Goa court on Friday. Pacheco, who has been charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, has filed for bail in the Panjim bench of the Bombay High Court. But with two important arrests in the case, the Goa police are hopeful of a breakthrough soon.
