Mumbai: His new film Dor hits theaters next week and he's already announced his next two ventures one of which will star John Abraham. Is Nagesh Kukunoor going mainstream?

"When I was recording the song for Iqbal, I kept thinking it was the perfect title for a film. The film though is about death," Kukunoor said.

With Dor all set for release, Kukunoor is already geared up to start work on his next two films — Ashayein and Bemisaal with Percept Picture Company.

Inspired by Hirishida style of filmmaking, Aashayein is a story of a man who is waiting for money to come his way to live life king size, but when the money really does come by he is about to die.

"I wish this film does come in the category of Anand. A film that lasted for 30-40 years and still have an impact is rare," Kukunoor said.

Aashayien is Nagesh's first big budget film with a big star — John Abraham.

And the reason for the choice? Well, John's recent films like Water and Kabul Express, which are a 'little different'.

But, the director promises to retain his simplistic style of filmmaking.

"Just because John is there in the film, it will not become glossy. It will be like any of my films, will have that earthy feel to it," Kukunoor said.

Nagesh's other project, Bemisaal is inspired from a real life story of a man who fights the system in a non-violent fashion.

That film goes on floor next year but things are certainly looking up for the filmmaker who started out with small budget films like Hyderabad Blues and Rockford.
