BANGALORE: Putting to rest speculations regarding the launch of Bangalore Metro, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Friday announced that the much-awaited Metro rail will start chugging from October 20.
Instead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, it is Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath who will inaugurate Reach 1 of Bangalore Metro from Byappanahalli to M G Road on October 20 at 11 am.
The state government was keen to have this prestigious project opened at the hands of Singh, but citing his busy schedule the PM expressed his unavailability to Gowda through a letter.
Gowda, who is currently in Delhi for the BJP’s national executive meet, invited Nath for the inauguration, and is also expected to invite Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi for the metro launch.
