New Delhi: It has been a big wait for the world's cheapest car and the Nano will be in showrooms in march.
No car has evoked so much global attention as the Nano from Tata Motors.
More than one year after its high-decibel launch and an acrimonious exit from Singur in West Bengal, the car is ready to hit the showroom. It will be launched on March 23 and bookings will start in the first week of April.
The first Nano is likely to be on the road in May. But do not expect a full launch.
The main factory in Gujarat will begin production by the end of the year or early next year while the first cars will come from the Uttaranchal plant.
Nano fans are happy even if there is not enough for everyone.
Competition is also watching this closely.
Hyundai is promising a cheaper car by 2011 and Maruti is planning a new Alto that will match the price of a high-end Nano.
So what will be the final price of the Nano and what will be the waiting period? The answers will be known in about three weeks.
