Ernakulam, Kerela: It is a normal day at the busy broadway market in Ernakulam but the man carrying the load is no ordinary coolie. Snibu S Ravi, who is a three times arm wrestling national champion in 110 kg category, now wants to participate in the world championship in Canada this November.

But the problem that Snibu is facing is that he needs Rs 1.5 lakh, while he earns only Rs 220 per day.

“On one side I cannot quit my work in the market as that gives me my daily bread. At the same time I am keeping myself fit hoping that financial help will come by,” says Snibu.

The Sports Authority of India has not recognised arm wrestling as a sport at the national level so Snibu's hopes of going to international events depend on sponsors.

But this has not dampened his spirits. Every evening without a fail, Snibu goes to a local gym to remain fit.

“It will be sad if he doesn’t make it to Canada. With no help coming from the Government, only a sponsor can be of any help,” says Snibu’s instructor Mukunda Kumar.

But, the truth is that Snibu’s dreams can only be realised when the Sports Authority of India and Indian Olympic Association recongnise arm wrestling and its governing bodies across the country.
