New Delhi: The tricolour is in the midst of another controversy. Foreign tourists, who were watching the India-Pakistan one-dayer at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium, used the National Flag as a tablecloth and sofa cover.
An NGO on Wednesday demanded the arrest of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) President Lalit Modi and Vice-President Bimal Soni, alleging that both are responsible for the disrespect of the Indian flag as the guests belonged to the association.
Showing a picture taken during the match from the VVIP enclosure, Pandit Suresh Mishra, the Coordinator of Naagrik Morcha, said a foreigner invited by the RCA kept a glass of wine on the Tricolour.
“Lalit Modi had invited his foreigner friends and they insulted the National Flag by keeping a glass of wine on it. Nothing can be more disgraceful than this,” Mishra told CNN-IBN.
The NGO is planning to move court under the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act for misuse of the Tricolour. On August 15 last year, this NGO was not allowed to hoist the flag at the same stadium.
Modi reportedly has said that he will look into the matter. "I am aware of whatever was said by the Nagrik Morcha. After news reports appeared in papers, I have immediately asked for an enquiry into this matter,” PTI quoted Modi as saying.
