New Delhi: The three-day old truckers' strike has been called off following an agreement between the transporters and the government after a marathon negotiation that lasted for over eight hours.
The truckers have been demanding roll-back of hike in toll tax, honouring of service tax agreement of 2004, and rationalisation of duty on diesel and removal of speed governors on highways.
In Jammu, the shutdown and protests continued for the fifth day on Friday, as over 30 people were injured in separate clashes on Friday.
The protests, led by the BJP-VHP combine, are against the revocation of the land transfer to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Curfew continued in Jammu city, Samba and Kathua district though relaxations were announced for an hour in the evening.
The errant TTE who allegedly pushed a 13-year-old boy off a running train on Wednesday in Orissa has been arrested by the police in Rourkela.
The boy lost a leg and a hand in the incident while travelling on Geetanjali Express.
The boy was pushed out of a running train in Orissa for not paying Rs 50 to a the ticket examiner.
