A Jaipur court has rejected B B Mahanti's anticipatory bail application; Karunanidhi asked the police not to "harass" people while enforcing the compulsory helmet rule and the Tis Hazari court in Delhi has summoned lyricist Gulzar, director Yash Chopra, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan and Shaad Ali.

Mohanti’s bail plea rejected
Orissa top cop B B Mahanti's anticipatory bail application has been rejected by a Jaipur court on Saturday.

Mahanti, who is accused of helping his son Biti, a rape convict, jump parole.

The court categorically pointed out that Mohanty was intentionally trying to escape.

A Rajasthan police team failed to arrest Mohanti despite camping in Bhubaneshwar for four days during when the senior police official was untraceable.

Compulsory helmets in TN
One day after wearing of helmets was made compulsory for two-wheeler riders in six cities across Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday asked the police not to "harass" people while enforcing the compulsory helmet rule.

The rule was enforced after a Madras High Court order.

Jhoom Barabar in song controversy
The Tis Hazari court in Delhi has now summoned lyricist Gulzar, director Yash Chopra, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan and Shaad Ali on a petition filed by the Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehendi alleging that his voice was replaced by that of Shankar Mahadevan in the title song of soon to be released film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

But the court refused to stay the release of the film.
