Nawaz asks Benazir to join hands to oust Mush

New Delhi: Former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif has invited PPP chief Benazir Bhutto to join hands to oust General Pervez Musharraf and restore democracy in Pakistan.

Speaking to CNN-IBN from Jeddah over telephone, he said the law that doesn't permit a third term as prime minister, which virtually shuts out Benazir, as illegal.

“We don’t bother about that because I am not interested in becoming PM under 17th amendment. But I will become PM with this intention that I have to reverse all the amendments introduced by the dictator in the constitution,” Sharif said.

Sharif called for Benazir and other opposition parties to work together for the restoration of top judges who Musharraf ousted when he declared a state of Emergency on November 3.

“We had come to this position much earlier that we will not accept a dictator as President and now she (Benazir) has also come to this conclusion. So this is a very positive development,” Sharif said.

Sharif added, “We both seem to be inclined to cooperate with each other together with all the other parties. So we should be marching together for restoration of democracy and judiciary. We are in touch with Banazir Bhutto and we are coordinating.”

Meanwhile, taking a dig at Musharraf’s statements on quitting as the army chief, Sharif said, “He says once the Supreme Court gives its judgment then the notification is issued. So when will be the notification be issued and when will he take off his uniform? It seems it all depends on what Mr Musharraf wants. He will use the judiciary to serve his own interests. Whatever decision he wants he will get from this judiciary.”
