New Delhi: Six persons died and 12 were seriously injured when a landmine exploded in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday morning.
Agencies report that suspected naxals blew up the landmine on Geedam-Bhopalpatnam section of national highway when officials from the Bhairamgarh police station were on their way to Bodli village. The explosion occurred when the police team tried to defuse the landmine.
The dead have been identified as Nagaland Armed Force Assistant Commandant Sarvato, jawans Nayak Batti and Apang Chang, driver Dinesh Daharia, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandrakant Markam and Special Police officer Koyam Manku, UNI quoted an official as saying. Five of the injured have been flown to Raipur for treatment.
Bhairamgarh Block Panchayat President Vikram Maravi and Salwa Julum activists Bablu and Mannu Patel are among those injured. Two other landmines were found near the blast site, Dantewada Collector K R Pisda told UNI.
In a related incident, naxals killed Constable Ashok Potai on Wednesday night in the Raoghat police station area in Kanker district.
