Mumbai: It will be a long time before an Indian plays in the NBA but that has not discouraged many aspiring youngsters from signing for the coaching clinic with Baron Davis in Mumbai.

All of sudden there is a buzz about basketball in India as Baron Davis, a lead players of the LA Clippers in their NBA team is in Mumbai, conducting coaching clinics.

Davis is helping up and coming players to pick up tips from the basketball great.

"Anytime you look at the kids, all you can see is that they are really attentive and they want to be a star. Today, at the coaching clinic, it was wonderful to see those kids go and do the drills and learning and having fun, because that's what basketball is all about," said Davis.

On the sidelines, there are entertainment acts that are off-the-court events. The New York Knicks' cheerleaders are there to add colour to the rigorous training sessions.

This seven-week free interactive basketball experience will be taken to seven malls in three cities. It will move from Mumbai to Delhi and further on to Bangalore.

The event will have youth clinics led by Davis and question-and-answer sessions for the fans...the Knicks City Dancers will also be there to perform a variety of their in-game routines.

"Think of the talent and the opportunities in the years to come which is going to be great. I look forward to seeing India make a great basketball country," Davis added.

Davis will also conduct junior NBA and WNBA Hoop School Coaching Clinics in Mumbai and Bangalore.

The program was launched in 2008 to promote basketball and an active lifestyle among children in India.
