New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader from the north east, Purno Sangma lashed out at the Congress on Thursday for imposing Governor’s rule in Meghalaya.
The leader air-dashed to Delhi after all his party's government in Meghalaya was dismissed and President's rule imposed. At a press conference, the angry Sangma questioned if NCP should continue to have a truck with a party like Congress.
“In my view, the NCP should have no truck with congress anywhere in the country,” said Sangma.
Sangma has decided to file a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday to have the President's rule revoked in his home state.
“This act of the President of India is an anti-national act,” he added.
Looks like NCP boss Sharad Pawar has decided to sacrifice Meghalaya at the altar of the battleground for the state of Maharashtra. He did not meet the angry Meghalaya leader and is reportedly not even taking his phone calls.
This could possibly be because Pawar knows that his prime ministerial ambitions as well as his bargaining power after the elections will depend on how many seats his party gets in Maharashtra.
The desperation of the two leaders doesn't match. While Sangma can afford to lean any which way, this is not the right moment for Pawar to move away from the UPA.
His seat sharing deal with the Congress in Maharashtra is almost done.
