NDA asked me to rig lottery deal: ex-governor

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Ved Marwah, who served as governor in Manipur, Mizoram and Jharkhand. has accused some National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders of pressurising him to favour a Mumbai-based business tycoon in an online lottery deal during his term as Manipur governor.

Marwah, a former New Delhi police commissioner, told CNN-IBN that senior NDA ministers would ring him up to favour the business house.

"All the bigwigs of the NDA government were ringing me up and making my life miserable that I should help them... and this man landed up in a special plane in Manipur, throwing his weight around to get me to cancel my orders which I didn't. That's how our system functions. The point that I have made in my book is that it cuts across parties. It is not just one political party," said Marwah, whose book India in Turmoil is releasing on Monday.

He has also accused the Union Government of downplaying the Chinese threat and claimed that China has established its presence over large parts of the North-East.

He said that India should take the Chinese threat very seriously.

"China now has its presence in a big way in our neighbourhood. While I agree that we shouldn't be making statements for which there is no need to make but we should be very conscious of the threat they pose for our country. China has been subverting us in every international forum," said Marwah.
