New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance is getting ready to corner the Government on price rise. NDA MPs formed a human chain outside Parliament on Thursday, protesting soaring prices of commodities and inflation.
Leader of the Opposition, L K Advani has asked the Government to quit and go for elections if it is unable to control inflation.
"If you can't stop price rise then you should quit and the country should go to polls," Advani was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, adding that the Opposition was "ready" for the challenge.
Alleging that the government had "failed" on the issue, Advani joined NDA members including leaders like Rajnath Singh, George Fernandes and Manohar Joshi, in forming the chain.
The issue was echoed in both Houses as the agitated Opposition raised vociferous slogans seeking to expose the UPA's aam aadmi (common man) plank.
Taking a dig at the Left parties and key outside supporters to the Government, Advani said that the coalition was helpless as its two major allies have diametrically opposite economic and foreign policies.
Claiming that such a coalition cannot work, Advani dubbed the UPA as an opportunistic get-together to keep the NDA out.
"The NDA will continue its agitation against inflation throughout the country in different forms," Advani said.
NDA has already called for a general nation-wide strike against inflation on May 2.
Karnataka Campaign
The BJP has decided to make "right to food and Rs 2 rice" its campaign plank in their Karnataka.
Meanwhile, with the Karnataka polls becoming a prestige issue for the Congress, the party is in a tight spot after its campaign manager in the state, SM Krishna admitted that price rise is bound to have a negative impact on the party's poll fortunes.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has directed all the state secretaries to assure people in Karnataka that measures will be taken to tackle the price rise.
